Privacy
What we collect, why, and how long we keep it — in plain English, not legal boilerplate. If anything here isn't clear, email ben@brignell.uk and ask.
No cookies
This site doesn't use cookies, and doesn't track you across other sites. The analytics we use (Fathom) works without them — it counts visits and pages in aggregate, not individual people.
The contact form
Filling in the contact form sends your name, your email or site address, and your message straight to us — not through a mail client, a real submission. We keep it for as long as we reasonably need to, to respond and keep a record of the enquiry. Ordinary email/enquiry retention, not the automatic deletion the audit tool below has.
There's a separate, unticked checkbox on that form ("Keep me posted") if you'd also like to join our mailing list through Kit — nothing gets added unless you tick it yourself, and you can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email we send. The same opt-in is also available on its own in the footer of every page.
The free audit
Running an audit is different — it's a real submission, not just an email draft. Here's what we collect and what happens to it:
- What we collect: your email address, the website address you submit, your business name if you give it, and a scrambled (hashed) version of your IP address — never the real one — used only to stop the same visitor submitting dozens of audits in a row.
- Who else sees it: the website address you submit, and some basic facts about it (its title, headings, roughly how much text is on it), get sent to Anthropic and Google to actually generate the report — Anthropic writes the findings, Google's PageSpeed tool provides the performance scores. Neither gets your email address.
- How long we keep it: if you never confirm your email, that submission is deleted after 7 days. A completed report is kept for a year, then deleted automatically.
- Why we keep it at all: mainly so we can follow up if you'd like to talk about what the audit found — and to stop the tool being spammed, which is also what the scrambled IP address is for.
Who we use
A short, honest list of every outside service that touches your data, and what for:
- Cloudflare — hosts the site and runs the audit tool. Sees all traffic, same as any host.
- Fathom — cookieless visit-counting, no personal data collected.
- Resend — sends your contact-form message to us, and the "confirm your email" message when you run an audit.
- Supabase — stores audit submissions and results, per the retention periods above.
- Kit — our mailing list. Opt-in only, via the checkbox on the contact form or the signup in the footer — never added automatically.
- Anthropic — generates the audit's written findings.
- Google (PageSpeed Insights) — generates the audit's performance scores.
Your data, your call
Want to see what we hold on you, or have it deleted before the automatic period above? Email ben@brignell.uk — a real person reads it, and we'll sort it out directly rather than making you fill in a form.
